Valiant Hearts The Great War Gameplay

In the begining of the game it is made clear to the player that this isn't a simple tale of good vs evil > karl is a german citizen living in France with his wife and newborn son and as the war starts he is forced to separate from his family and go back to Germany, where he must join the war effort. At the same time, his father-in-law, Emile, is conscripted into the French forces. neither of them are motivated to enlist for fighting a war, but as it often happens in war, they are both ordinary people who are caught in a connflict that is beyond their control.
The game course puts you in both Karl's and Emile's shoes, as well as in a Belgian's nurse namend Anna and a American's named Freddie who enlist with the French forces. These characters aren't traditional action heroes; Emile, for instance, has to scramble and strugle a bit to get himself to pass over obstacles, and instead of running and gunning thei way through the game's side-scrolling stages, characters solve a series of enviromental puzzles to proceed.

These puzzles cleverly find many different ways to combine simple elements like tossing objects to distract enemies, pulling levers to activate machinery and issuing commands to their devoted dog, Walt, that accompanies them. Throughout the stages, you can find collectibles that shed light on the historical realities of the war, making the conditions in wich the soldiers engage in trench warfare better, or the ways that the war affected the rights and workplace responsibilities of women.
